CityBoost

CityBoost Support

A live map of New York City bike-share stations where members can ride an e-bike free in low-assist mode.

How free e-bikes work

Citi Bike members can ride an e-bike at no extra cost in low-assist mode when a station has no classic bikes. Choose low-assist after scanning the bike.

Full assist costs the standard per-minute e-bike fee.

Tip: Free e-bike too far to walk? Ride a classic bike to a station near it, dock there, and walk over. The app's Bike Nearby button routes you to that nearby station.

Common questions

The map said free, but I was charged.

Free rides are for members, and only in low-assist mode — after scanning, choose low-assist. Full assist is billed per minute. Non-members pay per-minute pricing for every e-bike ride.

A station showed a free e-bike, but it was gone when I arrived.

Station data refreshes about once a minute, and someone may have taken the bike, or docked a classic bike there, while you walked. Tap the refresh button at the bottom left to see the latest.

Why shouldn't I dock my classic bike at the free station?

Docking a classic bike there means the station has a classic bike again, so its e-bikes are no longer free. Dock at a station nearby and walk over.

Can I find e-bikes even when they're not free?

Yes. Grey outlined markers are stations with e-bikes at the usual per-minute fee. Zoom in and the nearest ones show how many are there, and tapping any station shows its e-bike and classic bike counts.

Why does CityBoost ask for my location?

Only to sort stations by distance and show how far the nearest one is. Your location is used on your phone and never sent to us. The app works without it — you just won't see distances.

Does it work outside New York?

Not yet. CityBoost covers the New York City bike-share system, including Jersey City and Hoboken stations in the same network.

Can I unlock a bike in CityBoost?

No. Unlocking and paying happen in the official Citi Bike app. CityBoost's bike button opens it for you.
